MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team is geared up for their midweek game against the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes on Tuesday, Apr. 1. First pitch set for 5:00 p.m. CT at Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium.
Last Time Out
In their GSC series against Lee, the Falcons were swept by the Flames. UM dropped a pair of 1-3 ball games and lost 5-7. The pitching staff did a nice job in the series as they collected 17 strikeouts and only allowed six extra base hits.

About Montevallo
Jacob Pearl has lit up the month of March as he has a hit in 14 out of his 15 games played in the month. Pearl has 21 hits, 11 runs scored, six doubles, eight RBI and one home run. He had six multi-hit games and a .447 batting average in March. For the season, he is fifth on the team with 23 hits and fifth with 12 RBI.
Now 34 games into the 2024 season, the Falcons continue to lead the Gulf South with 44 home runs on the season. They are ahead of second place Mississippi College by 5. UM is currently tied for 16th in all of Division II in round-trippers. With a home run against Lee in game two of the series,
Connor Crowson is the first player in the GSC to reach the 100 total bases mark this season. Teammates

McGwire Turner are both in the top-10 in the conference with 75 and 73 total bases, respectively.
This season, the 6th inning has been the most important inning for the Falcons. When leading after the 6th, Montevallo is 14-2. When UM is trailing after the 6th inning, they are 1-14.
This will be the Falcons and Hurricanes second match up this season. In the first game, GSW scored eight runs in the first inning and held onto the lead the rest of the way. UM used eight pitchers against GSW and walked a season-high 11 batters.
Scouting Georgia Southwestern
The Hurricanes are red hot coming into Alabama as they are winners of their last six ballgames. GSW is averaging 13 runs in those games and has only allowed three runs a game in that span. They are currently 23-12 and 11-4 inside Peach Belt Conference play.
David Hernandez leads the Hurricanes with a .395 batting average and 51 hits. Hernandez adds two homers, 36 RBI and has only struck out 16 times in 129 at bats. Paul Hegeman has a .354 batting average with 10 doubles and 31 RBI. He leads GSW with a .475 on base percentage and a .567 slugging percentage.
Georgia Southwestern has the second lowest team ERA in the PBC at 4.46 and has struck out the third most batters with 267 strikeouts. Carsen Plumadore leads the conference with six saves while he leads the team with 18 appearances, a 2.33 ERA and a WHIP of .85.
