Falcons Top North Greenville, 12-7

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse improved to 6-2 overall after topping North Greenville, 13-6, on Saturday afternoon.
 
North Greenville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first six minutes before Aaron Tichonoff broke the ice for the Falcons on a solo effort at the 8:57 mark. Jetty Miller knotted the game at 2-2 with 7:26 left in the first before Caden Chalut's first of the day gave Montevallo its first lead of the afternoon at 3-2. Chalut added a second goal to stretch Montevallo's lead out to two before the junior completed his first-quarter hat trick with just 1:25 remaining to give the Falcons a 5-2 lead heading into the second.
 
After the break, the Trailblazers scored a pair of unanswered goals to trim the lead down to one with 11:30 until halftime. The Falcons then fired three shots on goal before Michael Howkins beat the keeper with 4:26 left in the quarter. John Spaans took advantage of a man-up chance at the 3:40 mark to stretch the lead to three before Nick Givens' lone goal of the day pushed the Falcons to a 8-4 with 2:03 left in the half. With just 21 seconds left in the half, Boas found the back of the net to five Montevallo a 9-4 lead heading into the locker room.
 
Both defenses stood tall to start the second half with both keepers combining for eight saves through the first nine minutes of the third. North Greenville finally scored the first goal of the second half at the 6:01 mark before Boas scored on the following Falcon possession to give UM an 10-5 lead. The keepers added another seven saves in the final five minutes to keep the score 11-4 heading into the fourth.
 
NGU drew first blood in the final stanza to cut the lead down to six with 12:17 left to play. The Falcons fired four shots before Chalut beat the keeper to stretch the lead back out to 12-5 with just 6:42 to play. NGU's final goal came with 4:45 to play before Montevallo attacker William Angus scored in the final minute to give Montevallo its 12-7 win over NGU.

  • Montevallo penalty kill was perfect on the day with six man-up chances for NGU and no goals allowed.
  • Montevallo outshot NGU 45-39 on the day with the Falcons taking a 29-25 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Caden Chalut led the Falcons' attack with four goals on seven shots and four shots on goal while adding three ground balls.
  • Matthew Boas tallied three points on two goals and an assist while John Spaans and William Angus added two assists apiece.
  • Alex Egorshin added his sixth win of the season with just seven goals allowed while adding 19 saves.
