MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team earned a 3-2 victory over Alabama Huntsville to close the weekend at Softball Stadium at Orr Park.
Taylor Lloyd was solid in the circle, pitching her seventh complete game and earning her fourth win of the season. The junior allowed two earned runs and racked up three strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
After dropping the first two games, Montevallo looked to strike early, as back-to-back hits from
Riley Tyree and
Molly Pendley put a pair of runners in scoring position in the first inning.
Becca Benton brought both runners home with a two-RBI single up the middle, giving UM the early, 2-0, advantage.
The Chargers responded with a run of its own in the top of the second, cutting the deficit in half, 2-1.
Montevallo added another run in the bottom of the third, as
Riley Tyree hit a sac-fly to score
Skylar Johnson and put the Falcons ahead 3-1.
The Chargers responded once again with another run in the top of the fourth, cutting the deficit back to one run, 3-2.
Taylor Lloyd shut down the Chargers through the next two innings, sitting down six of the next seven batters she faced, keeping Montevallo ahead going into the seventh inning.
After recording consecutive outs to open the top of the seventh, a UAH triple put the tying run at third. Lloyd induced a popup to end the threat and secure the 3-2 victory for the Falcons.
