MOBILE, Ala. – The Montevallo men's tennis team fought hard but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Spring Hill College on Sunday at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.
Spring Hill grabbed the early advantage by securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Montevallo's No. 3 duo of Guilherme Gracioli and Ryota Nakajima provided a bright spot, edging out their opponents 7-5.
In singles play, the Falcons mounted a strong comeback attempt, winning three of the six matches. Gabriel Variano delivered a gutsy performance at No. 3 singles, rallying from a first-set loss to claim a 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory. Guilherme Gracioli dominated at No. 4 singles with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win, while Ryota Nakajima followed with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 5.
Despite their efforts, the Falcons fell just short, with Spring Hill securing victories at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6 singles to clinch the match.
Montevallo (2-4) will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue their road schedule.
