Falcons Take On Christian Brothers in GSC Series

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team is set for their road trip to Memphis, Tn. to take on the Christian Brothers Buccaneers on Friday, Apr. 11 through Saturday, Apr. 12.
 
Last Time Out
The Falcons were defeated by the Shorter Hawks 5-8 on Tuesday, Apr. 8. In the game, Evan Radford hit two long shots to extend his season total to 12. Landon Leake had a season-high three hits. On the Mound, Seth Gurr, Mason Creacy, Dylan Dickert and Mitchell Rhodes combined for 6.1 innings where they didn't allow any earned runs.

About Montevallo
Jacob Pearl earned the GSC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. Since March 1, Pearl has had a hit in 19 out of his last 20 games played. In his previous five games, he has eight hits, six runs scored, two doubles, three RBI and a homer. The Freshman from Madison, Alabama sports the longest hitting streak on the team at 10 games and has a reached base streak of 22 games.
 
Evan Radford has been on fire as he has eight hits, five home runs, 10 runs scored and 14 RBI in his last five games played. Radford is now tied for third in the GSC with 12 homers, is 12th in the conference with a .365 batting average, tied for sixth with 54 hits, tied for fifth with 12 doubles and is tied for second in the GSC with 102 total bases.
 
Logan Harbin is as hot as a hitter as you'll find as he has 11 hits in his last 22 at bats. In that span, he's scored five runs and driven in four RBI. Harbin is one of four Falcons with five or more multi-RBI games and has the fourth most runs batted in on the team with 22. Cozzi is coming off one of his best starts of the season as he went five strong innings and only allowed four hits, two earned runs and struck out four. He's no stranger to the rubber game as he has taken the mound for the Falcons in eight games where the winner takes the series. Cozzi is three punch outs away from becoming the programs third pitcher to reach 200 strikeouts in his career. He is tied for sixth in the GSC for the fewest earned runs allowed with 16. Cozzi also has the eighth lowest ERA in the conference at 3.57.
 
Scouting Christian Brothers
The Buccaneers come into the weekend 2-2 in their last four games played. They lost their previous Gulf South Conference series against Mississippi College where both teams split the first two games. The Choctaws took game three, 3-18. CBU defeated Ouachita Baptist in their midweek on Tuesday 10-8. In the game, they put up 10 runs within the first four innings and held the lead all the way to the end.
 
Christian Brothers is led by Cory Steinhauer who leads the team with seven homers this season. Steinhauer has a batting average of .315, 39 hits and 27 RBI. Jalen Smith has 16 multi-hit games for the Bucs and has CBU's longest current hitting streak with seven consecutive games. Smith adds 13 multi-RBI games in 2025.
 
On the mound, Christian Brother has the highest ERA of any team in the GSC at 9.67. Cameron Olivo has 10 games started and has pitched 37.1 innings and has struck out 23 batters.
 
The Buccaneers have only won one GSC series this season when they swept Auburn Montgomery on Mar. 14 through Mar. 15.
