MEMPHIS, Tn. – The University of Montevallo baseball team completes their first sweep of the season against Christian Brothers on Saturday, Apr. 12 at Joe Nadickbernd Field. With the wins, the Falcons are now 23-19 and 14-13 in GSC play. The Buccaneers fall to 15-25 and 5-20 in conference play.
GAME ONE
The Falcons manufactured the first run of the ballgame as
Jacob Pearl was plunked to lead off the game. After advancing to third on a wild pitch,
Connor Crowson drove home Pearl to give the Falcons the early 1-0 lead. Christian Brothers would tie it up in the bottom half with an RBI double. The run would be unearned due to an error early in the inning.
Matthew Bullard struck out three batters in the first including back-to-back punch outs to end the first.
Montevallo took the lead back as
McGwire Turner drew a bases loaded walk.
Connor Crowson singled to bring home Stephenson and Pearl to extend the UM lead. CBU struck with two outs in the second with a double to shorten the gap between the Buccaneers and Falcons to 4-2.
In the bottom of the third, Christian Brothers tied the game as the first four batters for the Bucs reached including a two RBI double. Bullard again struck out three Buccaneers in the inning.
Evan Radford put the Falcons back on top with a single in the four to drive home
Jacob Pearl. This would be Pearl's third time crossing home plate.
Three free passes loaded the bases for the Falcons with hit by pitches drawn by
Payton Stephenson and
Jacob Pearl while
Mitchell Walker was walked.
McGwire Turner earned the RBI as he was hit with a pitch to score Walker. Crowson came up a batter later and singled to drive in Turner and Pearl.
Matthew Bullard settled in from there and threw two scoreless innings back-to-back. Bullard ended his night with a career-high of 10 strikeouts. He earned his seventh win of the season and set another career-high with his six innings pitched. Bullard gave way to
Seth Gurr who earned the three-inning save, the first of his career. Gurr's only blemish was a walk as he went three strong innings with three strikeouts. He did not allow a hit or a run.

GAME TWO
Just like game one of the double-header, the Falcons struck first with an RBI single off the bat of
Logan Harbin to score
Jacob Pearl. Christian Brothers scored two in the bottom half of the first with two RBI singles.
Both teams went scoreless in the second including a 1-2-3 inning by
Gino Cozzi.
Logan Harbin came through again for Montevallo as he brought home Radford and Crowson. Harbin scored later in the inning off a CBU error. The Buccaneers would scratch one across in the bottom in the third off a Falcon miscue on defense.
McGwire Turner would launch his sixth homer of the season in the fourth. The solo shot would give the Falcons a 5-3 lead.
Montevallo exploded for an eight spot in the fifth with eight runs on four hits. Pearl started the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Walker. After
McGwire Turner walked,
Connor Crowson would hit the Falcons first grand slam of the season to put UM up by seven. This would be Crowson's 14
th long ball of the season.
Logan Harbin would triple home
Evan Radford two batters later, then
Mitchell Walker would hit the Falcons third homer of the game.
Now staked to a 10-run lead, Cozzi made quick work of the Buccaneers with a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth. This would be Cozzi's 200
th strikeout of his career and is the third pitcher in program history to accomplish this feat. Cozzi would put up a zero in the sixth with the only damage being a single.
The Falcons truck for six runs in the seventh.
Evan Radford scored on an error by CBU for UM's 14
th run of the ballgame.
Payton Stephenson singled home a run, then
Ethan Huddleston would blast a three-run shot to extend the lead to 18-3.
Preston Bedford would score later in the inning on a fielder's choice.
Gino Cozzi would throw his fourth consecutive scoreless inning to pick up the complete game win and to give the Falcons their first sweep of the season.

GAME NOTES
- Matthew Bullard earned his seventh win of the season as he threw a career-high six inning and he struck out a career-high 10 batters.
- Seth Gurr earned the first save of his career. He was fantastic with three innings pitched, three strikeouts, no hit and no runs allowed.
- Connor Crowson drove in 10 runs in both games combined. He hit the Falcons first grand slam of the season and blasted his 14th homer of the season.
- Jacob Pearl scored a season-high of four runs in game one today. Pearl also tied a program record with three hit by pitches in game one of the double-header.
- Mitchell Walker totaled six hits today and five runs scored. Walker hit his first home run of the season, stole two bases and drove in two RBI.
- Logan Harbin drove in four RBI in game two as part of a three-hit effort.
- McGwire Turner totaled three RBI today and hit his sixth round tripper of the season in game two of the double-header.
- Gino Cozzi threw a complete game in game two with three strikeouts. He allowed two earned runs. Cozzi become the Falcons third pitcher in program history to eclipse 200 career strikeouts.
ON DECK
With the sweep, the Falcons will now return home and take on the Union University Bulldogs on Friday, Apr. 18 through Saturday, Apr. 19. On Saturday, the Falcons will celebrate Senior Day as well as Alumni Weekend.
