MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse slides to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in Peach Belt Conference play after a 16-9 loss to No. 6 Flagler on Saturday.
Flagler struck first at the 12:58 mark but the Falcons answered quickly with a
Jetty Miller goal just 37 seconds later to keep the game tied. Just a minute later, Flagler took a 2-1 lead before junior
Alex Egorshin tallied his first saves of the day to keep the Falcons within one. Flagler extended its lead to 3-1 with 7:46 to play before taking a 5-1 lead into the second with a pair of goals in the final four minutes.
Egorshin opened second with another save ahead of
Caden Chalut's man-up goal with 13:02 that trimmed the lead down to three. The Saints answered with back-to-back goals to extend the lead out to 7-2 with 10:31 left in the half. Egorshin added another save before
Matthew Boas scored his first of the day with 7:49 left in the half. Flagler's defense stiffened to end the half with a 9-3 lead after a pair of unanswered goals.
The Saints scored a pair of goals to open the half and close a 4-0 run to go up by eight with 9:19 on the clock. The Falcons saw a trio of shots blocked before Boas took advantage of a Flagler penalty to cut the lead down to 11-4. Flagler answered with 2:12 left in the third to take a 12-4 advantage into the fourth.
The Falcons looked to spark a comeback early in the fourth quarter with Boas scoring back-to-back goals in the opening minute before
John Spaans found the back of the net with 13:17 to play to cut the lead to 12-7. Montevallo fired three more shots on goal before Boas brought the Falcons within four with his fifth goal of the day. Flagler answered with back-to-back goals over the next minute to stretch the lead out to 14-8. Freshman
Michael Howkins scored with 6:45 on the clock for the final Montevallo goal of the day. Flagler added two more goals as the Falcons dropped a second-consecutive game for the first time this season.
