MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse closed the regular season with a 16-15 overtime win over Alabama Huntsville to move to 10 wins for the second-consecutive season.
UAH drew first blood at the 13:02 mark before adding a second goal to take an early 2-0 lead. With 12:13 on the clock,
Jacob Obee cut the lead in half with UM's first goal of the day. Junior
Alex Egorshin tallied a trio of saves before UAH added another pair of goals to take a 4-1 advantage. Just 17 seconds after UAH's fourth goal,
Matthew Boas found his first of the day off an assist from
Aidan Collery. The Chargers would go on to score two goals to close the quarter with a6-2 lead over Montevallo.
The Chargers kept on the gas pedal to open the second with a 4-0 run to take a 10-2 lead with 10:33 on the clock.
Caden Chalut answered just 30 seconds after UAH's goal before Obee took advantage of a Charger penalty to cut the lead down to 10-4. Egorshin added another trio of saves over the next four minutes before Johns Spaans continued UM's run with his first of the day. Obee and
Aaron Tichonoff score a pair of goals in quick succession to bring Montevallo back within three. Another pair of saves from Egorshin held UAH's lead at 10-7 going into the half.
Out of the break, the Chargers scored a pair of goals early to regain a 12-7 lead at the 8:30 mark. The game turned into a defensive battle over the next four minutes with just three shots before Spaans made the score 12-8 after his second goal of the game with 4:30 left in the quarter. Just a few moments later, Chalut scored a man-up goal to bring the Falcons back within three. UAH answered to push the lead out to 13-9 but
Michael Howkins found his first of the day with 1:58 left. Boas beat the keeper with 1:17 left in the third to make the score 13-11 heading into the fourth.
UAH struck first in the fourth, but Boas answered with another UM man-up goal to bring the Falcons within two at the 12:07 mark. Just 23 seconds later, freshman
Aidan Collery brought the Falcons to a 14-13 score with his lone goal of the day. Egorshin tallied a pair of saves of the next five minutes before Obee knotted the game at 14-14 with 5:56 to go. With 4:32 on the clock, Chalut scored on a highlight goal to give Montevallo its first lead of the day. UAH scored in the final minute of regulation to send the game to overtime knotted at 15-15.
UAH got the first possession of overtime but
John Morris forced a timely turnover that led to Boas' gold goal just 58 seconds into overtime to give Montevallo a 16-15 win over its in-state rival.
