MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team is set to host Union University in their final GSC home series of the season on Friday, Apr. 18 and Saturday, Apr. 19. The Falcons will have Senior Day on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Last Time Out
The Falcons earned their first series sweep of the season as they took all three games from Christian Brothers. UM took game one and held off the Buccaneers as CBU scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Logan Medsker picked up his first save of the season in the 9-8 win. They handled the Bucs in both ends of the double-header as the Falcons won 8-4 and 19-3. UM's offense would combine for 32 hits in the series.

The Falcons were firing on all cylinders against Christian Brothers as they averaged 12 runs a game on over 10 hits a game. UM also got great outings from
Adiel Melendez,
Matthew Bullard and
Gino Cozzi. Melendez had his fourth outing this season here he's struck out eight or more batters. He also had his eighth start where he's gone over six innings. Bullard went a career-high six innings and struck out a career-high 10 Buccaneers. Melendez and Bullard are tied for second in the GSC with seven wins in 2025.
Gino Cozzi threw a complete game in game three, his first career game where he went the distance. Cozzi struck out three and became the Falcons third pitcher in program history to reach 200 punch outs. Both
Seth Gurr and
Logan Medsker earned their first saves in a Falcon uniform in the series. Medsker earned the save in game one as he got a final out of the game with runners on first and second. Gurr was untouchable in game two of the series against CBU as he went three innings and allowed no hits or runs.
Connor Crowson picks up his second GSC weekly award of the season after a week where he drove in 12 RBI and hit his 13th and 14th homers of the season. Crowson currently is tied for the fifth highest batting average in the conference at .379, is tied for the most hits in the league with 66 and has the third most homers at 14. Additionally, he is second in the GSC with 52 runs batted in, has the most total bases with 119 and has the third highest slugging percentage at .684.
When the Falcons score seven or more runs, they are 16-2 this season. When driving in seven or more RBI they are 13-1. The UM batting order has produced seven or more hits in 37 out of their 42 games played. The pitching staff has struck out seven or more batters in a game 25 time this season. When Falcons pitchers combine to allow seven or more earned runs they have lost nine out of 12 ball games.
Scouting Union
Just like the Falcons, Union is coming off a sweep where they took all three games from Auburn Montgomery. The Bulldogs run ruled the Warhawks in games one and two 13-3 and 16-2. Game three was tight, but Union came away with a 3-2 victory. On Tuesday, Apr. 15, Union fell in both games in their double-header against Harding.
Carson Chavies leads the Bulldogs with a .399 batting average and has the most homers (5) and RBI (47) on the team. Chavies adds 18 multi-hit games, 11 multi-RBI games and had the Bulldogs longest on-base streak this season at 29 consecutive games. Hudson Cepparulo comes into the weekend with a five-game hitting streak and in those five games he has accumulated eight hits and seven RBI. With the hot stretch, Cepparulo is hitting over .300 for the season.
As a pitching staff, the Bulldogs have the second highest team ERA at 8.57. They also have the fifth highest batting average against at .308. Eli Snelson has started 11 games for Union and has the most innings pitched at 63.1 and the most strikeouts with 41. Snelson has three complete games in 2025 which leads the Gulf South. In game one against AUM, Snelson threw a complete game where he only allowed two earned runs, hot walks and he struck out six.
