Falcons Defeated By Auburn Montgomery in Game One

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team falls in the series opener against Auburn Montgomery on Friday, Apr. 25. With the loss, the Falcons are now 24-22 and 15-16 in GSC play. AUM picks up their 13th win of the season and 10th in conference play.

After the Warhawks retired the Falcons in order to start the game, AUM took the first lead of the game with a two-out double into the left center gap. Falcons starter, Adiel Melendez, would strikeout two batters in the inning while only allowing the one run.

Evan Radford singled up the middle with two strikes to lead off the second inning. The Falcons loaded the bases after Logan Harbin and Carson Wideman drew walks. AUM stranded all three runners with a punch out to end the threat.

The Warhawks extended their lead to 2-0 with a two-out single to center in the bottom of the third. The runner who scored reached on an error committed by the Falcons.

UM loaded the bases again in the top of the fourth, as Khalil Bell was hit by a pitch with two outs. Logan Harbin singled to right and Carson Wideman walked to juice the bases. Payton Stephenson got a hold of one that was heading for the left center gap, but the AUM center fielder ranged over to hold the Falcons scoreless.

The Falcons finally cracked the scoreboard in the seventh with an RBI single from McGwire Turner. Turner drove home Payton Stephenson who started the inning with a double. With second and third, AUM pitching struck out three consecutive Falcons to hold on to the one-run lead. In the bottom of the seventh, AUM would hit a three-run homer to break the game open. All runs would be unearned due to two Falcon errors.

Auburn Montgomery continued to extend their lead as they scored four runs on only one hit in the bottom of the eighth.

Luke Mitchell picked up two RBI on a single up the middle in the ninth. Mitchell's single brought home Jacob Pearl and Payton Stephenson.
