MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team is ready to take on the GSC-leading and No. 12 ranked Delta State Statesmen on Friday, Apr. 4 through Saturday, Apr. 5.

McGwire Turner set a program record as he drew five walks.
Evan Radford and
Logan Harbin combined for nine hits, eight runs scored and six RBI. UM used eight pitchers and combined for 13 strikeouts.

About Montevallo
Against Georgia Southwestern,
McGwire Turner walked a program record of five times. Turner also tied the UM record for most times on base in a game with seven. This is the second time this season where he has got on base seven times. Turner comes into the week with the second highest batting average in the GSC at .410, the second most hits at 55 and the fifth highest on base percentage at .481.
In the midweek against GSW,
Evan Radford blasted his eighth homer of the season in the fifth inning which is tied for sixth in the conference. In the game, Radford was on base six times as he went 4-for-4 with two walks, five runs scored and four RBI. In his last 10 games, he has 11 RBI, 17 hits, 13 runs scored, five doubles and three home runs.
For the second time in his career as a Falcon,
Logan Harbin collected five base knocks against the Hurricanes. Last year, Harbin set the career-high mark against Columbus State on March 6. The five hits are the most by any Falcon in a game this season.
Delta State comes into Montevallo as the 12th ranked team in Division II according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. This will be the second time this season that UM will host a ranked opponent in a series as they took on No. 1 Tampa on Feb. 7 and 8.
Scouting No. 12 Delta State
The Statesmen will come into the weekend with an 18-3 conference record. They are four wins ahead of 2nd place and have only lost one series this season against West Florida. The Statesmen have five series sweeps this season (Lee, Union, Alabama-Huntsville, West Alabama, Christian Brothers).
For the Statesmen, Drake Fontenot is regarded is one of the top arms in the GSC with a 1.29 ERA, seven wins, 62.2 innings pitched, 58 strikeouts and has only allowed nine earned runs this season. As a staff, they lead the conference with a 3.73 ERA and are tied for third with 252 punch outs. Josh Hill is tied with Montevallo's
Garrett Sloan for the GSC lead with nine saves this year.
They are tied for the lead in the GSC with Trevecca Nazarene with a .302 batting average. Brett Burrell leads the conference with a .422 average as he adds 49 hits, nine doubles, seven homers and 37 RBI. Burrell has 15 multi-hit games and has a 32-game reached base streak. Dylan Coleman has the most homers for DSU with nine and sports a .339 batting average.
