MONTEVALLO, ALA — The Montevallo men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day on April 9 with a hard-fought match against Wallace State Community College, ultimately falling 2-5 at the Tennis Court Complex.
The Falcons started the afternoon strong in doubles, taking two out of three matches to secure the opening point. Simon Luigs and Paul Sobich edged out a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles, while Ryota Nakajima and Guilherme Gracioli cruised to a 6-0 victory at No. 3. Despite a close battle, Dylan Kamel and Luiz Brandao dropped their match 5-7 at the top spot.
In singles play, Montevallo faced tough opposition from the Lions. Julius Ziebart picked up the Falcons' lone singles win in a comeback performance at No. 5, rallying from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Sobich pushed his opponent to three sets at No. 1 singles but fell short in the tiebreaker.
While the result didn't go in Montevallo's favor, the day served as a meaningful moment to recognize the contributions of the team's seniors. Their leadership and dedication were celebrated in front of home fans as they took the court in Montevallo.
The Falcons will look to bounce back as they continue their season in Gulf South Conference play.
