Eight Falcons Named GSC All-Academic, 158 listed on GSC Spring Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has released its 2025 Spring All-Academic Awards with eight Falcons named to All-Academic teams while 159 Falcons earned a spot on the GSC Spring Honor Roll.

UM Women's Golf led the way with three selections, Paulina Bermejo, Fabiola DeCespdes, and Caterina Oliveri all named All-Academic while baseball's Adiel Melendez, softball's Taylor Lloyd, women's lacrosse's Delaney Deffke, and track and field duo of Gabe Gamble and Emily Wolf each earned a spot on their respective All-Academic squads.
 
Bermejo, a 4.00 exercise and nutrition science major, earned her second GSC All-Academic honor after posting a 78.1 adjusted scoring average across 22 rounds in eight events. The senior's top finish of the season came at the GSC Championships with a T-22nd finish with a three-round score of +29.
 
DeCespedes earned her first career All-Academic award with a 3.967 GPA in pursuit of her Business Marketing degree. In her junior season, DeCespedes posted a 76.6 adjusted scoring average across five tournaments. The junior's top finish of the season featured a second-place finish at the GSC Championships with a score of nine-over while firing a season-best seven-over in the Full Moon Invitational.
 
Oliveri tallied her All-Academic honor for the first time in her career with a 3.81 GPA in her Business Marketing courses. The senior posted a 77.1 adjusted scoring average across eight events and a total of 21 rounds. Oliveri's top event of the season came at the Full Moon Invitational with a third-place finish and a score of four-over.
 
Melendez closed his collegiate career with an All-Academic nod after posting a 3.307 GPA in his Mathematics courses. Over the 2025 season, the redshirt senior posted a 10-5 record as a starter with an ERA of 2.38 which ranks third in the GSC. On the mound, he allowed just a .242 opponent batting average while adding 102 strikeouts to just 32 walks in a total of 98.1 innings pitched.
 
Deffke's first All-Academic award followed a season that saw the senior start in 13 games with 14 appearances while earning a 3.545 GPA in pursuit of her Computer Science degree. Over the season, the senior defender recorded a total of 13 ground balls while adding seven caused turnovers.
 
Lloyd's All-Academic honor follows a 3.909 GPA in her Education courses while appearing in 35 games with a total of 30 starts. The junior pitcher set a Montevallo record with a 2.10 ERA on the season while setting records for wins with 15 and complete games with 16. Alongside three shutouts, Lloyd posted a total of 140 strikeouts while holding opponents to just a .241 batting average.  
 
In his third outdoor season of his career, Gamble tallied his first All-Academic honor with a 3.691 GPA in his pursuit of a Mathematics degree. In 2025, Gamble set a pair of personal bests in the triple jump (14.49m) and the long jump (6.31m) while adding wins in the triple jump at the Falcon Classic and the Berry Field Day Invite. Gamble capped his season with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump a the GSC Championships.
 
Wolf's All-Academic honor follows her sophomore season that featured a 3.83 GPA in her Exercise and Nutrition Science courses. The sophomore thrower posted a total of 12 podium finishes on the season with a total of seven event wins. At the Falcon Classic, Wolf set a personal best in the discus with a distance of 44.93m while also taking second in the shotput with a personal-best mark of 13.27m at the GSC Championships.
 
Montevallo is one of three GSC members to have more the 100 members selected to the GSC Spring Honor Roll with a conference-leading 159 selections. Baseball led Montevallo's honor roll with a total of 31 selections.
 
To achieve honor roll status, a GSC student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 of better out of a possible 4.00 at the time the conference announces the award and have competed in outstanding competition–not counting exhibitions or scrimmages–during the season the award is presented.
 
To be named to the All-GSC Academic team, nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better their entire academic career at their institution and may not be a freshmen or first-term transfer. The student-athlete must also be a significant contributor to the team. Other factors include leadership, community service and extracurricular activities. Institutions are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken. All-GSC Academic nominees are selected jointly by faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors from within the league.
