AIKEN, S.C. – The Montevallo volleyball team opened up play at the GSC/PBC Crossover on Friday afternoon, falling to Augusta 3-1 inside the Convocation Center.

Both teams traded points early in the opening set, leading to a 6-6 tie after a Jaguar kill. Augusta surged ahead, winning six of the next eight points to take a 12-8 lead, but the Falcons battled back, tying it at 15 on a kill from Eliza Tyrrell. With the score locked at 23, Tyrrell delivered back-to-back kills to secure a 25-23 win and give Montevallo a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, Blakeley Robbins recorded two service aces and Nikol Antova added a kill to put the Falcons ahead early. Augusta responded with five of the next six points to take a 6-5 lead. The set remained tight down the stretch, but the Jaguars rallied late to take it 26-24, evening the match.
Montevallo opened the third set with a 5-1 run, only for Augusta to respond with a 5-0 stretch at the midway point to tie the score at 15. The teams traded points late, with Montevallo tying things at 22, but Augusta claimed three of the final four points to win 25-23.
In the fourth set, the Jaguars pulled ahead with a 7-1 run, taking a 9-4 lead. Montevallo battled back, drawing within one at 9-8 after a service ace from Maggie McColley, but Augusta surged again to close out the set 25-17 and secure the match.
MATCH NOTES
- Three Falcons finished with double-digit kills, led by Eliza Tyrrell's 12.
- Blakeley Robbins posted her third straight match with 20+ assists with a season-high 27.
- Montevallo recorded 13 blocks to just six for Augusta.
- UM put up a blistering .410 hitting percentage in the opening set.
