The opening frame set the tone with back-and-forth exchanges as neither side could separate early. Midway through, Lander capitalized on a 5-1 run to swing ahead, 18-13. The Falcons responded with a quick 3-0 spurt, fueled by a service ace from Mae Mae Beatty and a block from Maggie McColley, cutting the margin to two. The Bearcats closed on a 4-1 run to halt the rally and take the opener.

The Falcons' best set of the day came in the third, and it was fueled by two massive runs. After Lander inched back within three, UM responded with an 8-1 run that broke the set wide open at 20-10. The Falcons capped it with a 5-2 close, dominating the set to grab a 2-1 match lead.
