Montevallo Secures 3-1 Win Over Lee in GSC Play

MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The University of Montevallo volleyball team picked up its first Gulf South Conference win of the season at Central State Bank Arena, defeating Lee in four sets on Saturday afternoon.

Montevallo came out sharp, hitting an impressive .407 as a team in the opening frame. After trading points early, the Falcons broke away with a 6-2 run capped by a kill from Mallory Hulsey. Montevallo closed the set behind a kill from Eliza Tyrrell to take the opener 25-20.

The second set was a back-and-forth battle, featuring 20 ties and 10 lead changes. A pair of kills from Hulsey evened things late, and an Antova swing sealed the 29-27 thriller, giving UM a 2-0 lead.

Lee flipped the momentum in the third, using strong serving and timely blocking to grab control early. Despite a few key points at the net from Antova, Montevallo was unable to close the gap as Lee pulled away for the 25-17 win.

Montevallo answered in convincing fashion in the fourth. The Falcons jumped out to a 9-3 lead behind kills from Mallory Hulsey and Ellise Hanson, who gave the offense a steady spark. The Falcons rode the early lead to a 25-16 set win to secure the match.

GAME NOTES

  • Blakeley Robbins totaled a season-high 37 assists, 10 digs, and three kills.
  • Mallory Hulsey led the Falcons for a second straight contest with 15 kills.
  • The Falcons posted 11 service aces, led by five from Ava Wind.
UP NEXT: The Falcons will travel to Clinton, Miss. on Tuesday night for a 6:00 p.m. match against Mississippi College.
