CLINTON, Miss. — The Montevallo volleyball team battled in a GSC road match at Mississippi College on Tuesday night, falling 3-1 to the Choctaws inside A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Falcons came out strong in the opener, jumping on the Choctaws early with a 7-2 run to begin the contest. The Choctaws began chipping away, eventually taking the lead late after a 7-2 run of their own. Down 24-23, the Falcons held off set point, then used a 4-1 run to close out the set 27-25 and grab a 1-0 match lead.
Momentum shifted in the second as Montevallo struggled to find rhythm. The Choctaws used a 9-1 serving run, fueled by multiple aces, to break open a tight set and build a 15-7 advantage. Despite kills from
Danielle Greene and
Mae Mae Beatty, Montevallo could not slow the surge and dropped the frame 25-16 as Mississippi College evened the match.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle with 16 ties and seven lead changes. Montevallo grabbed control midway through, leading 13-10 after a Beatty ace and an
Eliza Tyrrell kill. Mississippi College responded with a run of its own, but the Falcons rallied to go ahead 23-22 on kills from Greene and
Maggie McColley. Montevallo fought off multiple set points, with
Ava Wind anchoring the defense with clutch digs, but the Choctaws edged out the 29-27 win to take a 2-1 match lead.
The Falcons battled to extend the match, keeping the score tight early at 10-10. However, a decisive 6-1 Mississippi College run midway through the set created separation. Montevallo closed within 23-20 after a Greene kill, but the Choctaws capitalized to finish the set 25-20 and secure the 3-1 victory.
