VALDOSTA, Ga. – Montevallo men's basketball falls to Valdosta State, 101-83, on the road with four Falcons score double figures.
Montevallo led 10-4 after the first four minutes of action with
Derek Moore starting the night 3-for-3 from the floor. A 17-0 Blazer run left Montevallo trailing by 11 with 12:10 left in the first half. With a 5-0 run from
Jaylen Curry Montevallo cut the lead down to 26-17 with 9:16 on the clock. A pair of threes from
Bryant James alongside buckets from
Derek Moore and
Brandon Fussell pulled Montevallo within two at the 5:25 mark with a score of 31-29. VSU stretched its lead back to double-digits heading into the break with a 47-32 lead over Montevallo.
Montevallo opened the second half with four-consecutive threes with a pair of
Devon McKinnon to bring the lead down to eight at 52-44. Over the next four minutes, Valdosta State would stretch the lead back to 15 points with 12:58 to go. Back-to-back threes from Montevallo with 8:57 to go cut the Blazer's advantage down to 74-66 but a 12-3 run from VSU saw Montevallo in an 86-69 hole with 5:17 on the clock. Valdosta State would hold a double-digit lead down the stretch to defeat Montevallo, 101-87, on Thursday night.
