James' Career-High Leads Montevallo to Win Over Trevecca

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball improved to 12-6 on the season and 8-4 in Gulf South Conference action after taking a 93-77 win over Trevecca Nazarene behind a career-high 29 points from Bryant James.
 
Trevecca took an early 6-3 lead in the first two minutes before Montevallo went on a 13-0 run over the next five minutes behind a pair of threes from Bryant James to take a 16-6 lead. TNU would go on to trim Montevallo's lead down to 18-14 with an 8-2 run before a third three from James ended the run and put the Falcons up by 7 with 8:42 left in the first half. Montevallo would stretch the advantage to 13 points after a James finish at the rim with just under seven minutes to go. James nailed his fourth three of the half at the 3:22 mark to give Montevallo its largest lead of the half at 40-25. A TNU three at the buzzer cut Montevallo's lead down to 46-38 heading into the break.
 
James' fifth three of the night opened the second half scoring before Brandon Fussell gave Montevallo a 13-point lead just a few possessions later. Back-to-back three and an and-one from the Trojans cut Montevallo's lead down to 60-56 with 12:59 to play. Following a pair of freethrows from Jaylen Curry, Trevecca came within one possession of tying the game with a three at the 11:29 mark. Trevecca kept the Falcons' lead with single digits for the next five minutes until a Brandon Fussell triple at the 6:44 mark gave Montevallo a 74-64 lead. Fussell added another three to stretch the lead out to 13 before Derek Moore lifter Montevallo an 80-66 lead at the 4:35 mark. A dunk from Moore on the break gave Montevallo an 89-71 lead with just under three minutes to go. Trevecca outscored Montevallo 6-4 down the stretch but couldn't overcome the deficit to give Montevallo its 93-77 win on Thursday night.
