MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team fell to Trevecca Nazarene, 57-43, inside of Central State Bank Arena on Thursday evening.
Trevecca got off to a hot start, jumping ahead early 8-0 to force a Montevallo timeout at 6:35. The Falcons responded with a 10-0 run, sparked by back-to-back lay-ins from Alani Owens and back-to-back triples from Audrey Hendrix and Emily Mouser, as the Falcons led, 10-8, with 2:09 left. The Trojans scored the next five points, before Mouser closed the quarter with a pair of free throws, as Trevecca held a, 13-12, advantage at the end of the opening quarter.
Mouser continued to fire, opening the second quarter with a pull-up jumper. Carlyn Burdette scored the next field goal for the Falcons, hitting a pull-up jumper, as Trojans led, 17-16, at the 4:49 mark. After a Trojan basket, Burdette hit back-to-back three pointers and a free throw to put the Falcons back in front, 23-19, with 2:30 left. The Trojans hit one basket in the final minute, as Montevallo took a, 23-21, advantage into the break.
Both teams opened the second half with a basket apiece, as Mouser cashed in on a lay-in for UM. After a pair of Trevecca baskets, the Falcons responded with back-to-back baskets from Hendrix and Hughes, as the Falcons regained the lead, 30-27, at the 5:26 mark. The Trojans began to take a control, using an 11-0 run to pull ahead, 38-30, with 1:16 left in the third. The Falcons responded, as Norman closed the quarter with the final five points, as Trevecca held a, 38-35, advantage at the end of the third.
Mouser opened the fourth quarter with a lay-in, but a costly 10-0 Trojan run put Trevecca ahead by double digits, 48-37, with 5:19 left in the contest. Mouser hit a pair of free throws and cashed in on a driving lay-in in the next minute, as the Falcons cut deficit back down to single digits, 49-41, with 4:17 left. Susla hit the final basket for the Falcons, but the Trojans ultimately took home the, 57-43, victory.
