MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Freshmen Shalexia Little and Emily Mouser scored in double figures on Saturday, as the Montevallo women's basketball team fell to Lee, 71-56, inside of Central State Bank Arena.
Little led the way with 13 points, while Mouser added 12 on the day.
Julia Susla scored the first basket of the day for either side, hitting a jumper in the opening minute, but the Lady Flames used an 11-1 run through the next four minutes to pull ahead, 11-3, at the 4:53 mark. Carlyn Burdette halted the run, cashing in from distance at 3:54. Both teams traded a pair of baskets to close the opening quarter, as Susla and Mouser hit jumpers for Montevallo. The Lady Flames held a, 16-10, advantage at the end of the first.
Lee opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to stretch its lead out to double digits, 23-10, at the 8:21 mark. The Falcons responded with back-to-back baskets from Mouser, as Lee led, 26-15, with 5:57 left in the second quarter. The Montevallo offense struggled to find any rhythm through the latter half of the second quarter, as the Lady Flames outscored the Falcons 12-3 to take a, 38-18, advantage at the break.
Lee opened the second half with the first five points, before Johnigan scored the first Falcon point, hitting one-of-two free throws at 6:53, as the Lady Flames led, 43-19. Shalexia Little checked in an provided an immediate spark for Montevallo, scoring the next 11 points of the game to cut the deficit to, 43-30, at the 4:39 mark. Norman added a free throw and Owens hit a pair of baskets in the next few minutes, as the Falcons cut the deficit down to 11 points, 47-36, with 1:54 left in the third. The Lady Flames closed the quarter with a 7-1 run to stretch its lead out to, 54-37, at the end of the third.
After a pair of Lee free throws to open the quarter, London Robinson cashed in on a turnaround jumper and Jerrilyn Richardson hit a pair of free throws, as the Lady Flames led, 56-41, at the 8:18 mark. Both teams stayed at the free throw line through the next three and a half minutes, combining for 12 free throws made, as the Lady Flames held on to a, 63-46, advantage with 5:04 left in the contest. Mouser scored the next field goal, cashing in on a lay-in at 4:51. Little and Mouser added baskets, while Norman hit a pair of free throws, but the Lady Flames ultimately took home the, 71-56, victory.
