CLINTON, Miss. – Montevallo took a 76-54 win over Mississippi College on Thursday night after closing the game with a 19-4 run in the final eight minutes.
The Falcons took an early 8-3 lead behind six quick points from
Jaylen Curry in the opening three minutes before back-to-back threes from
Derek Moore and
Devon McKinnon stopped a quick run from the Choctaws and gave UM a 13-7 lead at the 15:19 mark. A finish at the rim from freshman
Bryant James at the 11:15 mark gave Montevallo a double-digit lead at 20-9. James then scored the next seven UM points with a pair of buckets and a triple to keep Montevallo out in front at 27-17 with 7:13 left before the break. Curry and Moore combined for the final 11 Falcons points in the first half as UM held a 38-31 lead heading into the half.
A pair of quick buckets from UM out of the half stretched the lead to 12 before MC knocked down back-to-back three to trim the lead down to six at 43-37 with 17:24 on the clock. A 6-0 run from the Falcons with four points from James pushed the lead back to 12 before a jumper from MC at the 10:22 mark made the score 51-42. MC scored its final field goals of the night with a three at the 7:54 mark before the Falcons opened a big run to close the game. Seven consecutive free throws from UM pushed the Falcons' lead up to 14 before a James three gave UM a 67-52 lead. Montevallo outscored MC 9-1 in the final three minutes to cap a 19-4 run to give the Falcons a 76-54 win over MC on the road.

- Montevallo tallied a 45-percent shooting mark on 27-of-60 from the floor while shooting 15-for-17 from the line for an 88.2-percent clip while holding MC to just 32.7 percent from the floor and 25.0 percent from deep.
- UM scored more than half their points from inside with 40 points in the paint while holding MC to just 14 points inside.
- Derek Moore tallied his fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds while leading the team with five assists.
- Bryany James shot 8-of-11 from the floor to score 18 points while picking up six rebounds and two steals.
- Jaylen Curry posted a 17-point outing with a 7-for-11 mark from the field while adding six boards and two assists.
