CLEVELAND, Miss. – Montevallo men's basketball improved to 11-4 in conference play and 15-6 overall after taking a 76-69 win over Delta State on the road.
Montevallo knocked down three consecutive triples early in the first half fallowed by finish on the break from
Brandon Fussell to take a 11-5 lead at the 16:17 mark. The Statesmen cut the lead down with a three to end the UM run before a
Derek Moore three at the 14:33 mark gave Montevallo a 10-point lead. Delta State used a 6-0 run to trim Montevallo's lead to 25-22 with 9:01 left in the half. The Falcons stretched the lead to 15 points by way of a 12-0 capped by an and-one from
Tyson Sexton. A three from
Sam Duskin with just under three minutes to go gave Montevallo its largest lead of the game at 46-29. Montevallo held its double-digit advantage heading into the break to lead 48-34 midway through the contest.
Delta State cut the lead down to single digits early in the second with an 8-2 run in the first two minutes before Moore ended the Falcons' skid with a finish inside. At the 14:14 mark, another three from Fussell gave Montevallo a 13-point lead before a scoring drought from UM let DSU cut the lead down to 59-52 with 11:05 to play. O'Niell Connolly pushed Montevallo's lead back to double figures at 64-53 with 8:24 on the clock. The Statesmen hung around for the next five minutes before cutting the lead down to 71-63 with 3:27 to play. With less than a minute to go, Delta State cut the lead down to just four with a trip to the line. On the next UM possession,
Sam Duskin sealed the Falcons' win with a three with just 16 second left to give Montevallo its 76-69 road win.

- Montevallo shot the ball well with a 50.0-percent shooting mark from the floor while adding a 42.9-percent clip from deep and an 80.0-percent mark from the line while holding Delta State to 40.0 percent shooting and just 22.9 percent from deep.
- The Falcons held a slim advantage on the glass with a 31-27 lead on the boards while adding seven offensive rebounds from both sides.
- UM scored a total of 30 points in the paint to 26 from the Statesmen while DSU scored 14 points off turnovers to eight from Montevallo.
- Brandon Fussell scored 20 points on the night on a 7-for-16 shooting mark and 4-of-8 from deep while adding seven assists, three steals and two rebounds.
- Jaylen Curry also tallied 20 points while shooting 8-for-14 from the floor to go along with five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.
- Tyson Sexton finished with 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting while adding a team-high eight boards.
