MONTEVALLO, Ala. – In the Falcons return to conference play, Montevallo topped Auburn Montgomery, 89-62, behind four double-digit performances led by 24 points from
Brandon Fussell.
AUM jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two minutes before
Brandon Fussell caught fire to go 5-for-5 from three-point range over the next three minutes for all 15 of Montevallo's opening points. AUM cut the Falcon lead down to 15-13 at the 13:10 mark before
Jaylen Curry knocked down three triples in a row in a 17-0 Montevallo run that gave Montevallo a 32-15 lead with 9:48 left in the first half. Freshman guard
Bryant James went on a one-man 7-2 run over three minutes to give Montevallo a 19-point advantage with 4:13 left before the break. AUM scored six unanswered points in the final minute to head into the locker room with Montevallo leading 53-36.
Out of the break, Fussell added a trio of threes in the opening four minutes to push Montevallo's lead to 65-41 at the 15:51 mark and give himself eight threes on the night. With 10:45 on the clock,
Tyson Sexton finished at the rim on the break to give Montevallo a 30-point advantage before a
Sam Duskin three with 8:51 to go gave Montevallo its largest lead of the night at 31 points with a 79-48 lead. AUM looked to battle back with a 12-3 run over the next five minutes before a
Miller Moody finish inside ended the run with 3:16 to go. Moody scored the final seven points for the Falcons as Montevallo went on to take an 89-72 win over the Warhawks.
