Fourth Quarter Comeback Effort Falls Short as Falcons Fall to Warhawks

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team dropped its first contest of the 2026 calendar year, falling to AUM, 56-45, inside of Central State Bank Arena.

Audrey Hendrix led the way for the Falcons with 13 points, followed by Julia Susla with seven points.

Emily Mouser scored the first point of the day off a technical free throw and Audrey Hendrix added a three-pointer at 7:45 to give the Falcons an early 4-0 advantage. The Warhawks got on the board after a pair of free throws, but back-to-back triples from Hendrix and Jerrilyn Richardson put the Falcons ahead, 10-2, at the 6:33 mark. AUM responded with a huge 17-0 run through the next five minutes to take a, 19-10, advantage with 1:58 left. London Robinson cashed in on a jumper to end the quarter, as AUM held a, 19-12, lead at the end of the first.

Montevallo opened the second quarter with a Kylee Norman triple followed by a Julia Susla lay-in to cut the deficit to, 19-17, at the 6:53 mark. The Warhawks responded with a 10-0 run to push its lead out to double digits, 29-17, at the 3:34 mark. Three Mouser free throws and a triple from Hendrix ultimately cut the deficit back to single digits, as AUM took a, 31-23, lead into the break.

Montevallo opened the second half with an Elyse Hughes free throw followed by a Hendrix triple to cut the deficit to five points, 31-26, at the 8:26 mark. The Warhawks responded with the next nine points of the game to push its lead back out to double digits, 40-26, at the 4:15 mark. Mouser halted the AUM run with a pair of free throws, but the Warhawks would score the final six points of the quarter to take a, 46-28, advantage into the final quarter.

The Falcons opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back baskets from Hendrix and Susla before AUM cashed in on a lay-in, as the Warhawks held a, 48-33, advantage at the 6:45 mark. The Falcons began to cut into the deficit, as Carlyn Burdette drained a triple and Alani Owens added a lay-in. Susla cashed in on a lay-in of her own and Hughes added a pair of free throws, as Montevallo cut the AUM lead to six points, 48-42, with 3:01 left in the contest. Both teams traded a basket in the next minute and a half, as Elyse Hughes knocked down a turn around jumper for UM. The Falcons failed to find a field goal in the final minute, as AUM ultimately took home the, 56-45, victory.
