MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo baseball team opens Gulf South Conference play this weekend as it welcomes No. 8 West Florida to Kermit A. Johnson Field for a three-game series. The series begins Friday with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m., followed by the finale Saturday at noon.

For the second consecutive weekend, Montevallo will face a top-10 opponent as No. 8 West Florida visits to begin GSC play. The Falcons are looking to bounce back after dropping a three-game series at top-ranked Tampa last weekend.

West Florida enters the weekend at 5-1 overall and is coming off a series win at Rollins. The Argonauts opened the season with a three-game sweep of No. 6 Florida Southern.

Offensively, Zack Stokes leads UWF with a .500 batting average, tallying 11 hits, one double, three home runs, and 10 RBI. He is one of seven Argos hitting .300 or better through the first two weeks of the season. As a team, West Florida is batting .303 with a .408 slugging percentage.

On the mound, righthander Colton Dorsey (0-0, 1.00 ERA) is slated to start Friday's opener after tossing five innings with six strikeouts against Rollins last week. Lefty Elijah Roberts (0-1, 1.00 ERA) is expected to start Game 2, while freshman righthander Tucker Ricks (0-0, 18.56 ERA) is projected to take the ball in Saturday's finale. As a staff, the Argos carry a 4.22 ERA with 44 strikeouts to just 12 walks, while opponents are hitting .276 against them.
