MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo baseball team dropped Sunday's series finale to No. 8 West Florida, 2-0, at Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium.
After three scoreless innings, the Argonauts manufactured the game's first run in the top of the fourth. A trio of singles loaded the bases before a sacrifice fly to right field brought home the opening run and gave West Florida a 1-0 lead.
With both starting pitchers settling in, the score remained unchanged into the late innings. The Argos added an insurance run in the eighth, capitalizing on a leadoff single and an error to put a runner at third before another sacrifice fly extended the advantage to 2-0.
Montevallo threatened late, bringing the tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth innings, but could not break through as West Florida secured the conference-opening series win.
