MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Montevallo kicked off its final road trip of the regular season with a 73-60 win over Auburn Montgomery on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons took an early eight-point lead with a pair of threes from
Brandon Fussell and another from
Derek Moore. O'Niell Connolly finished an old-school three-point play at the 13:29 mark to give UM an 18-8 lead. At the 10:21 mark, Fussell scored on the fast break to stretch the lead to 11 before AUM used a 7-2 run to cut the lead down to 22-16 with 8:51 left. A Fussell triple at the 4:43 mark of the first half kicked off a 7-0 Falcon run capped by a finish at the rim from
Devon McKinnon that gave Montevallo a 35-21 lead. AUM scored the final bucket of the first half to head into the break with Montevallo leading 37-28.
AUM used a 6-2 run to start the second half to trim Montevallo's advantage down to 39-34 with 18:20 on the clock. A
Tyson Sexton triple at the 17:11 mark ended the run before Duskin stretched the lead to nine with a three of his own. A
Derek Moore finish at the bucket sparked an 11-2 Montevallo run that featured a pair of threes from
Sam Duskin to give Montevallo a 56-42 lead with 10:28 left to play. Duskin's fourth three of the night came at the 7:27 mark before adding another just over two minutes later to give Montevallo a 14-point lead. With 3:02 left, Fussell nailed another three to stretch Montevallo's lead to 69-52. AUM outscored the Falcons 8-4 down the stretch but couldn't overcome the deficit and Montevallo took the 13-point win on the road.
