Falcons Top No. 20 North Greenville for Third Ranked Win in Program History

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Montevallo men's lacrosse tallied its third win over a ranked team in program history after topping No. 20 North Greenville, 12-8, on Saturday.
 
The Trailblazers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal at the 12:39 mark before Lucas Mullen knotted the game at 1-1 off a break sparked by a save from Alex Egorshin. With 9:01 on the clock, Michael Howkins gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead before NGU tied the game at the 7:58 mark. Egorshin tallied six saves in a row to keep NGU off the board before the Trailblazers ended the scoreless stretch with its third goal of the opening quarter. Howkins tallied his second goal of the day with less than 30 seconds left in the first to send the game to the second with a tied score of 3-3.
 
In the first 15 seconds of the second quarter, Mullen scored on an unassisted effort to give Montevallo a 4-3 advantage. Egorshin tallied another trio of saves over the next five minutes before NGU scored a man-up goal to tie the game with 9:16 left in the half. Off his own ground ball, Jetty Miller put the Falcons back out in front with an unassisted goal before Matthew Boas assisted on another Mullen goal to give UM at 6-4 lead with 6:18 left in the second. North Greenville tied the game at 6-6 with a pair of unanswered goals to send the game to the half in a tie.
 
Out of the break, both defenses held strong for the first nine minutes of the third quarter before Boas tallied his first of the day at the 6:24 mark to break the deadlock. Following yet another Egorshin save, Ryan Andrews lifted UM to an 8-6 lead with an unassisted goal with 2:47 left in the third. Egorshin tallied another stop in the final two minutes of the third to send the game to the final stanza with the Falcons on top.
 
The Trailblazers scored back-to-back goals early in the fourth to tie the game at 8-8 with 11:56 left. Miller broke the tie with his second of the day on an assist from Samuel Martin. Egorshin tallied another pair of save over the next three minutes before Howkins increased UM's lead to 10-8 with 4:07 to play. Mullen recorded his fourth goal of the day just over a minute before Marley Strake gave the Falcons a 12-8 lead with 2:36 on the clock. Egorshin recorded his 19th save of the day to deny any hope of an NGU comeback and give Montevallo a 12-8 road win.
