CLINTON, Miss. – The Montevallo baseball team dropped both ends of a series-opening doubleheader to Mississippi College on Friday at Frierson Field. The Falcons fell 13-3 in the opener before a close 5-4 loss in the nightcap.
Game 1 | Montevallo 3, Mississippi College 13 (7 Inn.)
The Falcons got off to an early start as McGwire Turner led the game off with a solo homer to left. Mississippi College responded with a run in the bottom of the first and added one run each in the second and third innings.
The Choctaws pulled away with three-run frames in both the fourth and fifth innings, taking control at 9-3. A sixth-inning RBI single extended the lead, and Mississippi College closed the game with a three-run seventh inning, triggering the run rule.
Game 2 | Montevallo 4, Mississippi College 5
Montevallo once again jumped on the board first as Jack Fitzgerald launched a two-run shot to left to give the Falcons an early lead. Mississippi College scored in their half of the first, but Montevallo answered with two more runs in the second to stretch the lead to 4-1.
The Choctaws chipped away with runs in the second and third innings, and an RBI triple in the fifth evened the score. Mississippi College eventually plated the game-winning run on a hit-by-pitch to take the nightcap 5-4.
