MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Montevallo men's lacrosse fell to 3-3 on the season after dropping a home meeting with Belmont Abbey, 8-7, on Saturday afternoon.
Alex Egorshin opened the game with his first save of the day at the 13:06 mark before Belmont Abbey opened the game's scoring at the 11:50 mark. Egorshin tallied another pair of saves before BAC stretched the lead to 2-0 with 7:47 left in the first. Montevallo fired a total of five shots back-to-back with all five missing mark before the Crusaders ended the first quarter with a pair of goals to take a 4-0 lead into the second.
Belmont Abbey scored early in the second to extend its lead to five before the falcons fired a pair of shots on goal from William Angus and Aidan Collery but each was turned aside. With 9:20, Michael Howkins finally put the Falcons on the board with a man-up goal before Cameron Diehl made the score 5-2 on an unassisted effort. Collery found his first goal of the game with 4:33 on the clock. Matthew Boas and Caden Chalut scored back-to-back goals for the Falcons to send the game to the half in a 5-5 tie.
Out of the half, the two keepers tallied a total of 10 saves with Egorshin posting six of those to keep the score at 5-5 through the first 10 minutes of the second half. Belmont Abbey would score a pair of unanswered goals in the final 3:28 of the third to head into the fourth with a 7-5 lead over Montevallo.
With 13:55 left, BAC took advantage of a Montevallo penalty to take a three-goal lead in the fourth. Egorshin kept the Crusaders off the board with another three saves before Lucas Mullen brought the Falcons within two with an unassisted goal at the 6:34 mark. Just a few seconds later, Mullen made the score 8-7 with another goal. The Falcons fired a total of five shots in the final six minutes but couldn't find the back of the net and fell 8-7.
