MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse dropped a meeting with No. 6 Anderson, 22-16, on Saturday afternoon despite 23 saves from senior goalkeeper
Alex Egorshin.
The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first minute of the game behind goals from
Samuel Martin and
Cameron Diehl. Anderson answered at the 13:09 mark before
Matthew Boas put back a rebound to give UM a 3-1 lead. Egorshin posted his first two save of the day in the next four minutes before Anderson knotted the game at 3-3 with 5:48 left in the first. The Trojans found their first lead of the day at 4-3 before Boas took advantage of a man-up chance to tie the game up yet again. Boas finished his first-quarter hat trick off an assist from
Michael Howkins before Anderson tied the game at 5-5 to end the first 15 minutes.
Anderson regained control with the first goal of the second before Boas' fourth goal tied the score a 6-6 with 11:20 until halftime.
Caden Chalut's first goal of the day came on a man-up opportunity and gave Montevallo a 7-6 lead at the 8:59 mark.
Lucas Mullen added to Montevallo's lead off an assist from
Aidan Collery with 6:50 left until the break. Martin answered an Anderson goal at the 4:20 mark to keep the Falcons out in front by two. The Trojans cut the lead back to one before Howkins found the back of the net to make the score 10-8 with 2:30 to play in the second. With just 25 seconds left in the half, Anderson scored to send the game to the break with Montevallo leading 10-9.
The Trojans scored three unanswered to start the second half and take a 12-10 lead with 13:27 on the clock.
John Morris ended the run on a break-away goal before
Riley Burford knotted the game at 12-12 with 11:43 on the clock. Martin regained Montevallo's lead with an unassisted goal at the 9:56 mark before Boas pushed the lead up to 14-12. The Trojans tallied a pair of unanswered goal that evened the score at 14-14 despite a pair of saves from Egorshin. Diehl added a second goal on the day to break the tie before another pair of stops from Egorshin. In the final 34 second of the third, Anderson scored back-to-back goals to a take a 16-15 lead into the final stanza.
The Trojans scored early in the fourth to go up by two before held the side scoreless with three-straight saves. Anderson added another 3-0 run to go up 20-15 before stretching the lead to 22-15 with 4:04 left. Martin scored in the closing seconds to make the final score 22-16 in Montevallo's loss at home.
