Box Score 2 MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Montevallo men's and women's tennis teams each picked up wins on Saturday, defeating Christian Brothers in Memphis to begin the season at 1-0. The Falcon women earned a 6-1 win over the Lady Bucs, while the men's squad battled to a tight 4-3 victory.
In the women's match, Montevallo set the tone in doubles play as Latizia Bojara and Sophia Baillos earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2. Anna Nevada Henriksen and Ella De Jesus added a forfeit win at No. 3.
The Falcons secured five singles wins to clinch the match. Baillos picked up a straight-sets win over Raheen Taranum at No. 2, while Nevada Henriksen defeated Neha Dandu, 7-6 (6), 6-1, in the No. 3 position. De Jesus earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Fernanda Garcia Galvez at No. 4. Andrea Cano and Bojara were awarded forfeit victories at No. 5 and No. 6.
On the men's side, Christian Bacher and Leonidas Lazarides delivered Montevallo's lone doubles win with a 6-2 result at No. 2.
The Falcons responded in singles, winning four matches to secure the team victory. Samuel Maia posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Juan Ycaza at No. 1. Bacher followed with a 7-5, 6-4 victory against Benjamin Hanriot at No. 2. Lazarides earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Ernesto Pico at No. 5, and Luiz Gobbi sealed the match with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over OT Diaz Colell at No. 6.
