MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo baseball team earned its second ranked win of the season on Tuesday, overpowering No. 9 North Georgia 13-3 at Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium.
After working out of a pair of early bases-loaded jams, the Falcons' offense came alive in the third inning. Back-to-back singles set the table before Harrison Long laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error to bring home the game's first run. McGwire Turner followed with a fielder's choice that plated Joel Chandler from second to make it 2-0.
A bases-loaded walk by Matthew Widra pushed the lead to three before Caleb Karll roped a double past the third base bag to extend the advantage to 5-0. Widra later scored on a wild pitch to cap a six-run third inning for Montevallo.
Evan Radford added to the lead in the fourth, launching a two-run blast to left for his second home run of the season. Karll drove in his third run of the game with an RBI single to plate Preston Bedford as the Falcons continued to pull away.
Montevallo kept the pressure on in the middle innings. Turner doubled down the left field line to score two more and push the lead to 11-0 in the fifth. Bedford added an RBI single to right for UM's 12th run before crossing the plate on a Hudson Allen RBI single to left.
North Georgia broke through with three runs in the ninth, but the outcome was never in doubt as the Falcons secured the 13-3 victory and their second top-10 win of the season.
