MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse improved to 4-4 on the season with a 15-5 win over Young Harris behind a trio of hat tricks.
The Falcons broke the ice with a
Samuel Martin goal in the first two minutes of action before
Matthew Boas tallied a man-up goal with an assist from
Lucas Mullen to make the score 2-0.
Aidan Collery added a third early goal for the Falcons to stretch the lead to three.
Alex Egorshin tallied back-to-back saves before YHC scored its first of the day to cut the lead to 3-1. Just a minute later,
Michael Howkins scored just five seconds off the faceoff to give UM a 4-1 lead. Boas tallied a fifth Montevallo goal at the 7:23 mark of the first quarter to give UM a 5-1 lead. Both sides remained scoreless for the next seven minutes to close the first quarter with Montevallo on top.
At the 9:35 mark of the second, Young Harris recorded its second goal of the day with its first shot in the second. Egorshin tallied three-straight saves over the next five minutes before
Caden Chalut scored on an assist from Boas to stretch the lead back to four.
Jetty Miller tallied the final goal of the first half with 2:21 on the clock to send the game to the break with Montevallo leading 7-2.
Young Harris opened the second half scoring with a goal at the 13:27 mark. The Falcons tallied eight shots in a row with a pair on goal before Howkins gave Montevallo an 8-3 lead with 8:46 left in the third. After a pair of saves from Egorshin, Boas scored to make the lead six before
Lucas Mullen extended the lead to 10-3 with 4:35 on the clock. Young Harris cut Montevallo's lead down at the 3:39 mark. Egorshin added another save late in the third to send the game to the fourth with Montevallo leading 10-4.
Young Harris tallied its fifth and final goal of the day with 13:53 left to play. Chalut scored on an unassisted effort to extend the Falcons' lead to 11-5. After five UM shots, Boas added Montevallo's 12
th goal of the day with 10:03 left. Howkins and Mullen scored back-to-back Montevallo goals to stretch the lead out to 14-5. With 2:49 left, Chalut scored a man-up goal for the final goal of the day giving Montevallo a 15-5 win.
