Strong Pitching, Eighth-Inning Surge Lead Montevallo Past Badgers

MOBILE, Ala. – Montevallo rode dominant pitching and a three-run eighth inning to a 4-2 win over Spring Hill on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Luke Holbrook earned his first career win in his first career start, tossing six shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five. Gene Blackmon closed out the game in relief, giving up one hit over the final three innings to pick up the save.

After Sunday's high-scoring affair, the Falcons found themselves in a pitcher's duel against the Badgers. Montevallo struck first in the fifth when Mason Woolever scored on a Spring Hill throwing error. The Falcons created separation with a three-run eighth, sparked by a sacrifice fly from Caleb Karll, followed by an RBI single from Ian Cartwright, and capped off by another Badger error that plated Hollon Brock.

Spring Hill added two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but Blackmon retired the side in order in the ninth to secure the 4-2 victory in the in-state matchup.
