Montevallo enters the weekend at 3-1 after securing a 4-2 midweek win at Spring Hill on Tuesday. The Falcons leaned on a dominant pitching performance from freshman
Luke Holbrook and
Gene Blackmon, along with a three-run eighth inning, to earn their first midweek victory of the 2026 season.
Mason Woolever was named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week following an impressive start to his collegiate career. The Falcon left fielder is hitting .462 (6-for-13) with two doubles, a home run, three RBI, two walks, and five runs scored, and added another hit in Tuesday's win.
Tampa enters the series as the unanimous No. 1 team in the country after capturing each of the last two national championships. The Spartans opened the season with a pair of wins over Georgia College, taking the opener 15-1 before earning a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.
Senior catcher Jhoander Irigoyen earned NCBWA Preseason All-America Third Team honors after hitting .313 with 15 doubles and four home runs in 2025. Braydon Woodburn, Jordan Evans, and Jake Books each recorded three hits across the two wins against Georgia College.
On the mound, left-hander Robert Satin is slated to start Friday after allowing just one hit across 4.0 innings in Tampa's season opener. Right-hander John Luke Glanton will get the nod in Game 2 after striking out six over 4.0 scoreless innings. The Spartans are expected to send southpaw BJ Bailey (4.0 IP, 2.25 ERA, 2 SO) to the mound in Sunday's finale.
