MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team fell to Union, 83-60, inside of Central State Bank Arena on Thursday evening.
A pair of Falcons scored in double figures as Emily Mouser led the way with 15 points, while Jerrilyn Richardson nearly logged a double-double with ten points and eight boards.
After the Lady Bulldogs opened the game with a triple, Mouser logged the first points of the day, hitting a pair of free throws. Julia Susla hit the first field goal of the day, cashing in on a lay-in, as the Falcons trailed, 5-4, at the 5:13 mark. Elyse Hughes hit a pair of free throws and Carlyn Burdette hit a triple in the next minute, as the Falcons jumped in front, 9-7, at 4:14. Alani Owens added a lay-in, but the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Falcons 10-2 through the next three minutes to take a, 17-11, advantage with 1:15 left. Mouser closed the quarter with the final four points, as Union led, 17-15, at the end of the first.
Mouser continued to fire, hitting a pull-up jumper in the opening minute of the second quarter to tie the game, 17-17. The Lady Bulldogs scored the next five points, but the Falcons responded with three consecutive baskets from Mouser, Hughes, and Jerrilyn Richardson to put Montevallo ahead, 24-22, at the 5:22 mark. The Lady Bulldogs dominated the latter half of the quarter, outscoring the Falcons 17-0 to take a, 41-24, advantage into the break.
Montevallo opened the second half with back-to-back baskets from Audrey Hendrix and Hughes. Union hit a pair of baskets, before Susla responded with a lay-in, as the Lady Bulldogs led, 46-30, at the 6:45 mark. Mouser and Norman hit three-pointers in the next few minutes as the Falcons cut the deficit to 12 points, 50-38, with 2:58 left in the third. Union closed the quarter strong, outscoring Montevallo 10-4 to take a, 60-42, advantage into the final quarter.
The Falcons fought throughout the fourth, but the Lady Bulldogs outscored Montevallo 23-18 to secure an, 83-60, victory.
