SAINT LEO, Fla. – Montevallo men's lacrosse dropped to 1-2 to start the season after falling to No. 19 Saint Leo, 24-10, on Sunday afternoon.
Alex Egorshin tallied his first save of the afternoon at the 13:26 mark of the first quarter before Saint Leo took a 1-0 lead at the 12:04 mark.
John Morris tied the game at 1-1 off an assist from
Matthew Boas with 7:13 left in the first. The Lions closed the first quarter on a 4-0 run to hold a 5-1 lead heading into the second.
SLU stretched its lead to 6-1 to open the second quarter before
Matthew Boas scored his first goal of the day with the assist credited to
Aidan Collery at the 14:08 mark. Saint Leo then scored three unanswered goals to extend its advantage to 9-2 before Boas added a second goal to trim the deficit down to six. Saint Leo scored four more goals over the next four minutes before
Samuel Martin took advantage of a man-up chance for his first goal of the day at the 4:23 mark.
Lucas Mullen added a second man-up goal for the Falcons in the final minute of the first half to send the game to the break with Montevallo trailing 14-6.
After a pair of SLU goals to open the second half,
Caden Chalut and Mullen scored back-to-back goals for the Falcons to bring the score to 16-8 with 10:06 left in the third. The Lion added another pair of goals ahead of
Michael Howkins' first goal of the day with to make the score 18-9 heading into the fourth.
Saint Leo scored a pair of unanswered goals to open the fourth before
Samuel Martin scored the 10
th goal of the day for Montevallo at the 4:01 mark. Saint Leo closed the game on a 3-0 run to take a 24-10 win over Montevallo.
