MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo baseball team secured its fourth top-10 win of the season on Tuesday, defeating No. 5 West Alabama, 6-4, at Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium.
West Alabama jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, plating two runs in the first inning before extending its advantage with a solo home run in the second. Montevallo responded in the bottom of the third, getting on the board with a sacrifice fly from McGwire Turner.
The Falcons evened the score in the fourth when Hollon Brock launched a two-run home run to left field, tying the game at 3-3. The Tigers regained the lead with a run in the sixth, but Montevallo answered in a big way in the seventh.
With the bases loaded, Matthew Widra drew a walk to tie the game at four. A batter later, Caleb Karll was hit by a pitch to give the Falcons their first lead of the afternoon. Brock added to his standout performance with a sacrifice fly to center, driving in his third run of the game and pushing the lead to 6-4.
Mitchell Rhodes struck out a trio of Tiger hitters in the eighth inning, and Logan Medsker closed the door with a perfect ninth, earning his third save of the season and securing Montevallo's second straight win over the Tigers.
