Falcons Sweep Series With Pair of Shutout Wins on Saturday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo baseball swept the series with Valdosta State after a 1-0 win to open Saturday's doubleheader before picking up a 5-0 win to close the series.
 
Game 1 | Montevallo 1, Valdosta State 0
 
With Luke Holbrook on the mound to start the twin bill, the game went without a hit four the first four innings before the Falcons tallied back-to-back singles in the fourth from Evan Radford and Hollon Brock.
 
After a lead-off single from Christian Kallaher in the bottom of the fifth, Ian Cartwright hit an RBI double to score the only run of the game. Holbrook continued his hot start with 7.2 innings thrown with just five hits while adding nine strikeouts. Matthew Bullard and Logan Medsker closed the game with just one hit allowed in the final inning and a third to give Montevallo a 1-0 win to secure the series.

Game two opened with a pair of scoreless innings before Evan Radford hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the third to give Montevallo a 3-0 lead. After another pair of shutout innings from Montevallo's pitching staff, Jack Fitzgerald homered in the fifth to extend the lead before an RBI double from Hudson Allen scored Preston Bedford to make the score 5-0 through five.
 
The Falcons didn't allow another VSU hit in the final two innings to close the series with a pair of shutout wins over the Blazers.

  • Luke Holbrook threw 7.2 innings in game one with just five hits allowed in 29 batters faced with nine strikeouts and two walks.
  • Logan Medsker tallied his fourth save of the season to secure the Falcons' game-one win.
