MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Montevallo men's and women's tennis teams split their matches against Southern Arkansas on Monday afternoon, with the Falcon women earning a 4-2 victory while the men fell 5-2 to the No. 47 Muleriders.

On the women's side, the Falcons picked up momentum early in doubles play. Andrea Cano and Sophia Baillos secured a 6-2 win over Jolina Mass and Isabella Lazzerini at No. 2 doubles, while Montevallo also claimed the No. 3 doubles point by default to take the early advantage.

In singles, Montevallo delivered three key victories to clinch the match. Baillos earned a straight-set win over Lazzerini at No. 3 (6-4, 6-2), while Cano dominated at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Victoria Perez. Latizia Bojara added another point by default at No. 6 to seal the victory.

In the men's match, Montevallo came out strong in doubles, winning two of three matches to secure the doubles point. Christian Bacher and Leonidas Lazarides cruised to a 6-0 victory over the No. 7-ranked duo of Jonas Sommer and Uwe Diehl at No. 1, while Luiz Gobbi and Guilherme Gracioli followed with a 7-5 win over Frode Neumann and Lucas Nitzschke at No. 2.

In singles play, Guilherme Gracioli provided a bright spot for the Falcons with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 1 over Nitzschke.

Several other Falcons battled in tightly contested matches, including three-set efforts from Gobbi at No. 3 and Filippo Mignani at No. 4, but Southern Arkansas ultimately took control in singles to secure the 5-2 team victory.

UP NEXT: The Montevallo men travel to No. 31 West Alabama on March 31 for a 2 p.m. match, while the UM women return to action on Wednesday, April 1, to take on the No. 4 Tigers in the Falcons' final home match of the season.
