Falcons Win Opener, Fall in Extra Innings to UAH in Doubleheader Split

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Montevallo baseball team split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader with UAH on Friday, winning the opener 10-7 before falling 6-5 in extra innings in the nightcap.

McGwire Turner set the tone early with a solo home run in the top of the first, his second homer in as many games. UAH responded with two runs in the first and another in the second, but the Falcons rallied with nine unanswered runs to seize control.

Ian Cartwright's third-inning homer and a two-run double from Caleb Karll gave Montevallo a 4-3 lead. Turner continued his hot streak with RBI singles in the fourth and seventh to push the advantage to 6-3.

Cartwright added an RBI single in the eighth, followed by Turner's RBI double, bringing the score to 8-3. Jack Fitzgerald and Evan Radford each drove in runs to extend the lead to 10-3.
UAH plated four in the ninth, but Matthew Bullard closed the door with a final groundout to secure the win.

Game 2 | Montevallo 5UAH 6 (8 Inn.)

Montevallo drew first blood in the second inning when Caleb Karll's RBI groundout scored Matthew Widra. UAH tied the game in the third, but Tee Foster put the Falcons ahead in the fifth with an RBI single to score Hudson Allen.

Ian Cartwright and Jack Fitzgerald extended the lead with an RBI single and a two-run homer, respectively, giving Montevallo a 5-1 advantage.

UAH chipped away, scoring three in the seventh to force extra innings and eventually plated the game-winning run in the eighth to even the series.
