MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Klara Podskubkova highlighted the day for the Montevallo women's tennis team with a ranked victory, but both Falcon squads fell to No. 2 West Florida on Friday morning at the Montevallo Tennis Court Complex. The women dropped a 6-1 decision to the 2nd-ranked Argonauts, while the men were defeated 7-0.
In the women's contest, the Falcons dropped the doubles point after West Florida claimed all three matches. In singles play, Podskubkova delivered Montevallo's lone point with an impressive 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 victory over ITA No. 4 Carlota Verdu in the No. 1 singles spot. The visitors secured wins in the remaining five singles matches to take the overall 6-1 victory.
On the men's side, the No. 47 doubles pairing of Guilherme Gracioli and Simon Luigs picked up a ranked win at No. 3 doubles, defeating No. 22 Rafael Sabio and Goncalo Quintela by a 6-4 score. However, West Florida claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
The Argonauts went on to win all six singles matches to secure the 7-0 team victory, though Gracioli forced a decisive third set in his No. 3 singles matchup.
UP NEXT: The Falcons travel to Pulaski, Tenn., on Tuesday, March 10, to face UT Southern, who sits at No. 24 in the NAIA men's rankings. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
