Box Score TAMPA, Fla. – Montevallo men's lacrosse fell to No. 4 Tampa, 18-7, on the road despite 26 saves from
Alex Egorshin.
Tampa drew first blood in the first 30 seconds of the game before
Lucas Mullen found Montevallo's first goal off an assist from
Marley Straker at the 13:37 mark. Senior keeper
Alex Egorshin tallied a trio of saves over the next four minutes ahead of an unassisted
Matthew Boas goal that gave UM a 2-1 lead at the 7:46 mark. Another pair of Egorshin saves led to a second Mullen goal that put the Falcons up by two with just over three minutes left in the first. Egorshin held Tampa to just one goal in the first quarter after ended the first 15 minutes with three more stops.
Tampa opened the second with another goal inside the first minute of a quarter before the Falcons' keeper stopped three more shots. The Trojans tied the game at the 11:09 mark before
Caden Chalut regained UM's lead on a man-up goal with Boas credited an assist. Tampa scored three unanswered goals during a four-minute stretch to take a 6-4 lead with five minutes left in the half. On a break away sparked by a save from Egorshin, Daniel O'Leary found the back of the net to send the game to the half with Tampa leading 6-5.
The Trojans opened the second half on a 4-0 run to stretch its lead out to 10-5 midway through the quarter. Tampa added another three goals in the quarter while holding the Falcons scoreless to head into the fourth with a 13-6 lead.
Chalut tallied a man-up goal in the first 31 seconds of the fourth off an assist from Boas to trim the lead down to six before Tampa answered just under a minute later to keep the Falcons at bay. After a pair of Egorshin saves, Tampa tallied another pair of goals to go up 16-7. In the final three minutes, the Trojans added two goals while keeping Montevallo off the board to take an18-7 win over the Falcons.
