MONTEVALLO, Ala. – After capturing the first postseason win in program history, Montevallo Acrobatics & Tumbling is set to compete in the Conference Carolinas semifinals on Saturday. The third-seeded Falcons will face off against No. 2-seed Lander in Franklin Springs, Ga.
Montevallo holds an overall record of 6-3 and a 6-2 mark in Conference Carolinas action. The Falcons advanced to the semifinals after taking down No. 6 seed-King 252.700-234.715 on Tuesday evening. Montevallo took home wins in all six events, leading to the program best score of 252.700.
Montevallo's Katie Quinn, Corrine Wilcox, Vanessa Portuondo, Katlyn Smith, Morgan Wright, and Payton Roach tied a season-high in the Open Pyramid, recording a 9.75. Montevallo also saw strong performances in the Tumbling Event, as Katie Quinn and Thabela Fashu-Kanu earned the second-highest Duo pass score of the season (7.900), while Rilyn McAllister, Ally Torres, and Morgan Wright recorded the second-highest Trio pass score of the year (8.000).
Lander picked up the No. 2-seed in the Conference Carolinas and currently sits at No. 12 in the NCATA rankings. The Bearcats hold a 7-2 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Conference Carolinas action. Lander posts a season average of 255.488, which includes a season-high 263.700 last time out against Newberry on Mar. 25.
Montevallo and Lander faced off on Mar. 14, as the Bearcats captured a 252.756-233.540 victory inside of Central State Bank Arena. The Falcons lone event win came in the Compulsory Event.
The Conference Carolinas released its postseason awards on Thursday, as Montevallo Head Coach Kati Horstmann was named Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year, while Lexie Cole, Tracie Leopold, and Rilyn McAllister earned All-Conference honors. Lander had five named All-Conference Carolinas, including Athlete of the Year, Ashlyn Shively.
Saturday's meet is set to start at 2:00 p.m. CST. The championship meet and event finals will take place on Sunday.
