MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo baseball team opened its weekend series with a 4-1 victory over Christian Brothers on Friday night at Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium.
Christian Brothers struck first with a run in the opening frame, but Montevallo answered immediately.
Evan Radford launched a two-run home run to left-center, his ninth of the season, to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead.
From there, both starting pitchers settled in, keeping the score unchanged until the bottom of the sixth inning. The Falcons added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly by
Hudson Allen to extend the lead to 3-1. Montevallo tacked on another in the seventh when
Jack Fitzgerald tripled to right field and later scored on a sharp RBI single to left from Radford.
On the mound,
Zach Wyatt delivered another strong outing to earn the win, while
Gene Blackmon closed the door with a dominant five-out save to secure the series-opening victory.
