Falcons Top No. 18 Flagler to Move to 3-0 in PBC Play

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Montevallo men's lacrosse picked up its second ranked win of the season after topping No. 18 Flagler, 15-14, on the road on Saturday afternoon.
 
Flagler drew first blood to open the game and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 2:26 before Alex Egorshin posted back-to-back saves just about a minute later. Flagler added a man-up goal to take a three-goal lead before Cameron Diehl put the Falcons on the board with an assist from Samuel Martin. Martin cut the lead down to one with his first of the day at the 6:29 mark. Egorshin added another pair of saves ahead of Matthew Boas's first goal of the afternoon to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the second.
 
Flagler struck first in the second before Boas scored a man-up goal at the 12:28 mark to knot the game back at 4-4. Boas added a third goal of the first half just two minutes later to give Montevallo its first lead of the day at 5-4. Jetty Miller continued Montevallo's 3-0 run out of a UM timeout to give Montevallo a 6-4 advantage. Flagler tallied three unanswered goals over the next five minutes to regain control with 6:07 left in the first half. Boas continued his impressive outing with back-to-back goals just a few seconds apart to put the Falcons back on top. After Flagler took a 9-8 lead, Montevallo's defense held the Saints scoreless for the final 4:32 with Michael Howkins scoring in the final 13 seconds to send the game to the half with a 9-8 Falcon lead.
 
The Saints tied the game early in the third before Lucas Mullen's first of the afternoon broke the tie at the 9:37 mark of the third. John Morris assisted on Howkins' second goal of the day to push the Falcons to an 11-9 lead. Flagler pulled back within one at the 8:20 mark before Egorshin added another set of saves. Mullen found his second goal of the day with 3:16 left before the fourth before Martin gave Montevallo a 13-10 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
 
Flagler brought the lead down to one with a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the fourth before knotting the score at 13-13 with 9:18 to play. The game turned into a defensive battle for the next six minutes before Boas broke the tie on an unassisted effort with just 3:37 left in the game. Howkins gave the Falcons some breathing room with his second of the day to push the lead to 15-13 at the 2:18 mark. Flagler scored with just eight seconds left but a crucial faceoff win from Brandon Shaffner sealed Montevallo's 15-14 win over No. 18 Flagler.
