JACKSON, Tenn. – The Montevallo baseball team erased a mid-game deficit but ultimately fell in heartbreaking fashion, 5-4, to Union on Saturday afternoon at Fesmire Field.
Union struck first in the third inning, using a solo home run and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead. Montevallo answered in the fourth, stringing together four consecutive hits. Evan Radford drove in the Falcons' first run with a single before Caleb Karll followed with an RBI knock to even the score at 2-2.
The Bulldogs regained the lead in the fifth with back-to-back RBI singles to go back in front 4-2.
Montevallo continued to fight and pulled even again in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Jack Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, and Hollon Brock followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4.
Union pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 5-4 win.
