JACKSON, Tenn. – The No. 16 Montevallo softball team closed its weekend series with a 4-1 win at Union on Saturday.
Taylor Lloyd had a solid day in the circle, earning her 23rd win, while pitching her 22nd complete game of the season. The senior allowed one run and struck out a pair of Bulldogs in seven innings of work.
Montevallo looked to strike in the top of the first inning, as Taylor Rogers walked and stole second, and Emma Hawkins singled, putting runners at the corner with no outs. Rogers stole home to record the first run of the day. Hawkins scored on an error later in the inning, giving the Falcons a 2-0 advantage.
Union threatened in the top of the third, putting a runner in scoring position, but solid defense from Bentlee Stiner and Becca Benton led to a double play to keep the Bulldogs off the board.
Union plated a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Montevallo lead to 2-1.
The Falcons responded in the top of the sixth, as Makayla Peters hit her first home run of the season, putting Montevallo back up by two runs, 3-1.
Montevallo added to its lead in the top of the seventh, as Madison Fargo hit an RBI-double to score Rogers. Lloyd shut the Bulldogs down in the bottom half of the inning to secure the Montevallo, 4-1, victory.
